Google Analytics 4: Here’s What You Need to Know

Let’s talk about Google Analytics 4. No matter what stage your startup is in, it will most probably be the center of your data-driven decision-making process. Here’s what's new and how it may impact your growth marketing structure:

Event-based Tracking: a major improvement. It means that every user interaction on your website or app can be tracked as an event. For example, you can determine which product categories are attracting more clicks, which specific products within those categories are driving the most conversions, and how users are interacting with the site overall.

AI-Powered Insights: Based on what they're saying, GA4 should automatically identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities within your data. Let's say you're analyzing and optimizing social media campaigns - you can evaluate the performance of different ads and determine which ones are performing best based on user demographics, behaviors, and preferences.

Enhanced User Journey Tracking: GA4 connects user interactions, which is supposed to give you a more comprehensive view of how users engage with your startup at every touch-point. For example, you can track how users move from the app to the website and vice versa, identifying any friction points or barriers to conversion along the way.

Customer-Centric Measurement: Insights into user acquisition, engagement, retention, and monetization. Let's say you offer a subscription-based service - you'll be able to track how users engage with the service over time, identify how long users stay subscribed, and determine what percentage of users upgrade to higher-tier packages or make additional in-app purchases.

Privacy-Centric Approach: GA4 will allow you to track user behavior while maintaining compliance with data protection laws. For example, a startup operating in healthcare can use GA4's approach to track user behavior while remaining compliant with HIPAA regulations.

These changes are good. They make data more accessible without the need to gather information from multiple sources and deal with the hassle of integrating various products. It's a relief to have everything in one place. However, let's not get carried away. We should approach these promises with caution and see how they hold up in reality. That’s how you build an empire 💪
